DAYTONA BEACH, FL - Four different runners finished in the top 15 and Florida Southern College women's cross country upended Embry-Riddle on Saturday at the ERAU Classic. The Moccasins came in second overall, first among Division II teams at the meet, by compiling 60 points. The finish gives the Mocs tremendous momentum as ERAU entered the meet ranked No. 2 in the South Region after being selected to win the Sunshine State Conference. The Eagles were also ranked just outside the USTFCCCA Top 25 as a team receiving votes.
Florida Southern was paced by Alayna Goll's fourth-place showing. Goll, who was competing in her first collegiate meet, finished the women's 5K with a time of 19:49.73. Her mark is the fastest of the season for the Mocs. The Moccasins also had three more top-15 finishers as Ysabella Guerra (12th - 20:29.06), Sarah Zamot (13th - 20:330.30), and Hannah Flemming (14th - 20:39.32) turned in solid outings.
The Moccasins are expected to run next at the Queen City Invitational in Charlotte, NC on Sept. 29, but the after-effects of Hurricane Florence may alter those plans. Should that met be canceled, Florida Southern will likely run at next week's UF Mountain Dew Invitational in Gainesville. Check FSCMocs.com for any schedule updates.
