GREENWOOD, IN - Florida Southern College women's cross country and track student-athletes Hannah Flemming and Addison Cantor were named by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) to the Google Cloud Academic All-America® team on Wednesday. Both Moccasins were selected 2nd team and are the first Academic All-Americans in the history of the women's cross country and track programs.
Flemming, a double major in philosophy and political science with a minor in pre-law, boasts an undergraduate cumulative GPA of 4.00. The sophomore from Titusville, FL earned honors for cross country this past fall with USTFCCCA All-Academic and All-Region selections, as well as All-SSC 1st Team and All-Championship Team selections. She was also the 11th-place finisher at 2018 South Regional (22:13.73 - 10th fastest time in school history at a regional meet) and a third-place finisher at 2018 SSC Championship (22:26.78 - ninth fastest time in school history at a conference meet). Her best performance of the season came on September 28 when she ran an 18:19.0 pace at the Queen City 5K Invite.
Flemming continued her sophomore campaign with a blazing spring outdoor track season, setting school records in the 5000m at the Bison Outdoor Classic on April 14 (17:30.58), the 1500m at the UNF Invitational on April 15 (4:42.40), and the 800m at the South Florida Collegiate Invitational on April 20 (2:17.63). The sophomore additionally holds the school record for the mile run (5:21.99) and shares the school records for the DMR (12:59.54) and 4x800m (10:08.38). Flemming was named to the USTFCCCA All-Region Team this season for her performances in the 1,500-meter run and the 5,000-meter run.
Cantor, a double major in biochemistry and molecular biology, also boasts an undergraduate cumulative GPA of 4.00. The sophomore from Davidson, NC earned honors for cross country this past fall with USTFCCCA All-Academic and All-Region selections, as well as All-SSC 1st Team and All-Championship Team selections. She was also the 10th-place finisher at 2018 South Regional (22:18.80 - seventh fastest time in school history at a regional meet) and a fourth-place finisher at 2018 SSC Championship (22:15.80 - 10th fastest time in school history at a conference meet). Her best performance of the season came on October 6 when she ran an 18:20.30 pace at the Disney 5K Cross Country Classic.
Cantor set a school record for track this season on March 16 in the 3000m at the Black and Gold Challenge (10:27.26). Cantor was the 2018 MVP for women's track last season, setting the school record for the 10000m run at the Bison Outdoor Classic on April 14 (37:12.65). She earned numerous awards this academic year, including the 2019 FSC Scholar-Athlete award for women's cross country and the SSC Runner of the Week award on October 8.
The sophomore duo has set a new standard for Florida Southern College women's track. Together they hold a combined eight school records in track events, including seven of the top 10 times in the 5,000-meter run. Flemming holds the top four performances in the 1,500-meter run while Cantor holds three of the top five performances in the 3,000-meter run.
The Division II and III Google Cloud Academic All-America® programs are partially financially supported by the NCAA Division II and III national governance structures to assist CoSIDA with handling the awards fulfilment aspects for the 2018-19 Divisions II and III Academic All-America® programs.
