DAYTONA BEACH - The Florida Southern women's track team continued its spring season by participating in three events in the Spikes Classic held here Friday at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University.
Hannah Nelson came in third place in the 5000-meter run, crossing the finish line at 19:13.38 while Aleksa Guerra was also in the top 10, placed ninth at 20:13.59. Other Moccasin finishers included Haley Blem (20:32.52), Ashley Murray (21:04.07), Summer Hepp (21:43.68), Emily Williams (21:57.26), and Emilie Flament (22:00.13).
Guerra also placed 14th out of 40 runners in the 1500-meter with a 5:02.22 time (eighth fastest in program history) while Kassidy Watkins was the next FSC runner with a personal best time of 5:05.71 followed by Sam Clarke at 5:26.92.
Participating in the 10,000-meter run were Amanda Slattery (41:59.87), Jolene Vergauwen (42:03.43), Molly Price (42:12.27), Anna-Brook Opalinski (43:58.40), and Veronica Jackson (45:48.66). This marked the first time in program history that Florida Southern runners have participated in a 10,000-meter run.
