Nelson leads Moccasin Contingent at Embry-Riddle Spikes Classic

DAYTONA BEACH – Freshman Hannah Nelson was the Moccasins' top finisher in the 1500-meter run taking 23rd place in the 60-runner field at the Embry-Riddle Spikes Classic with a time of 5:09.41 in her first attempt in a 1500-meter event. The Moccasins recorded four points in three events to finish tied for 15th place.

Fellow freshman, Kassidy Watkins was close behind with a 5:11.64 time to finish 25th. Haley Blem took 33rd place with a time of 5:23.36 while yet another freshman, Emily Williams turned in a time of 5:25.09 to finish 35th.

Senior Marissa Senzamici finished 38th in the 1500-meter with a time of 5:33.09 while senior Ashley Dudman finished at 5:40.65 to finish in 45th place. Sophomore Sarah Swallow was 49th at 5:49.66 while sophomore Emily Schonder was 53rd at 5:57.50.

Florida Southen had two runners compete in the 5000-meter run with junior Emilie Flament finishing 28th with a time of 21:36.33 and freshman Ryann Cale coming in at 23:44.00 for 34th place.

In the 4x800 meter relay, the Mocs' team of Summer Hepp, Schonder, Swallow, and Dudman took fifth place with a time of 11:06.33. It was Florida Southern's first relay race of the season.

Florida Southern competes next at the Sunshine State Invitational April 15 at Embry-Riddle in Daytona Beach.
