Four Moccasin Women Runners Competed at This Weekend's Gasparilla Distance Classic

TAMPA - While most of their Moccasin teammates competed this weekend at the Embry-Riddle Last Chance Meet in Daytona Beach, four Mocs competed in the Publix Gasparilla Distance Classic in Tampa. 

Three of the four Moccasin runners competed in Saturday's Gasparilla 5K, while the other Moccasin ran in Sunday's half-marathon.

Leading the way for the Mocs in the 5K was senior Ashley Dudman (Geneva, Ill.), who placed 42nd among all female runners and was third among female runners in the age 20-24 category after running a time of 22:32. Dudman averaged 7:14 per mile in the race and placed 277th overall. 

The other two Mocs that ran in the 5K were senior Rebecca Levy (Mahopac, N.Y.) and junior Julie Roggeman (Valrico, Fla.). 

Levy placed 45th among all female runners and was fourth among female runners in the age 20-24 category after a time of 22:40, which put her 289th place overall, while Roggeman was 89th among all female runners and was seventh among female runners in the age 20-24 category after a time of 23:55, which was 463rd place overall.  

On Sunday, freshman Amanda Slattery (Tampa, Fla.) ran in the half-marathon as she placed 143rd overall with a time of 1:33.01. Along with placing 143rd overall, Slattery placed 19th among all female runners and was second among female runners in the age 15-19 category.

The Moccasins return to the track on March 4 as they compete at the UT Invitational hosted by the University of Tampa.
