DAYTONA BEACH - Jolene Vergauwen was the top Florida Southern finisher of the day, posting a sixth place finish in the 5000-meter race with a time of 19:48.85 as Florida Southern picked up two points to place 21st out of 22 teams at the Embry-Riddle Last Chance Meet here at the ERAU Track Stadium. Vergauwen's time in the 5K is the sixth best all-time in FSC program history. In the same 5000-meter race, Hannah Nelson placed 8th for the Moccasins with a 20:20.20 time.
Emily Schonder posted a pair of 12th and 13th place finishes for Florida Southern, placing 12th in the mile with a time of 5:55.15 in the mile finishing 13th in the 800-meter when she recorded a 2:44.95 time.
Five Moccasins competed in the 3,000 meter race with Emily Williams and Kassidy Watkins crossing the finish line in 12th and 13th place, with times of 11:26.52 and 11:28.17, respectively. Williams' time is the fastest time in the 3K posted by an FSC freshman, besting Kassandra Gearlds time of 11:37.05 set on April 17, 2000 while Watkins' time is the second best for a freshman. Molly Price was 22nd with a 11:54.48 time while Marissa Senzamici was 28th with a 12:23.33 time and Sarah Swallow was 29th with a 12:31.93 time.
Florida Southern will run next at the UT Invitational at the University of Tampa on Friday, March 4.
