INDIANAPOLIS - Florida Southern College women's tennis will be the No. 5 seed in the 2019 NCAA Division II Women's Tennis South Region I Tournament and will face No. 4 Saint Leo on Monday, May 13 at Barry University in Miami Shores in a repeat of last year's South Region I opening round. The winner of Monday's match takes on the top-seeded Buccaneers on Tuesday, May 14.
The Moccasins are ranked 21st in the latest ITA national ranking and finished the regular season with a 15-7 record. The Mocs finished fifth in the Sunshine State Conference with a 6-4 record and were knocked out of the opening round of this year's conference tournament by No. 3 Nova Southeastern.
The No. 4 ranked and No. 4 seed Lions lost to No. 1 Lynn in the semifinal of the SSC Tournament before losing to the No. 2 Buccaneers in the third-place match. Earlier this season the Lions sneaked past the Mocs at the Wynee Warden Tennis Center with a 4-3 win on April 16.
Last year's South Region I Tournament saw the Lions beat the No. 5 seed Moccasins as the No. 4 seed by a 5-3 scoreline before dropping a 5-1 contest to eventual national champions Barry.
The Moccasins are making their 18th overall trip to the NCAA postseason and last won a regional title in 2007. The Mocs advanced to the national tournament in 1991 and 2007. Head coach Trish Riddell leads the Mocs into their third-straight regional, as well as her 11th in 14 seasons at the helm.
