Women’s Tennis Tabbed to Finish Fifth in SSC
MELBOURNE, FL - Florida Southern College women's tennis was selected to finish fifth in the Sunshine State Conference on Friday, as voted on by the head coaches of the conference. Barry University received 10 first-place votes and is the favorite to win what would be its third-straight conference title. The two-time defending national champions received 100 total points and 10 first-place points in the 2019 edition of the poll.
 
Lynn University is the favorite to challenge the Buccaneers in 2019. The Fighting Knights finished second in the poll with 90 points and garnered the remaining first-place vote. Saint Leo University follows in third place with 80 points, while Nova Southeastern holds fourth place with 73 points and Florida Southern College sits in fifth with 64 points. Rounding out the preseason ranking are Rollins College (58 points), Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University (37 points), the University of Tampa (36 points), Florida Tech (29 points), Palm Beach Atlantic University (28 points), and Eckerd College (10 points).

The Buccaneers won the SSC regular season, NCAA regional, and the national title in repeat fashion. Barry swept the University of West Florida to hoist the NCAA championship trophy for a fourth time in eight years. Lynn, Saint Leo, and Florida Southern College also saw action in the 2018 NCAA tournament. 

The Moccasins will open the 2019 season on Feb. 15 in Pensacola with matches against Auburn Montgomery, West Florida and West Alabama. The Mocs will return home from the Florida panhandle for the home opener on Feb. 20 against Tampa to begin Sunshine State Conference play. Anchoring women's tennis for the 2019 season will be seniors Natalija Popovic, Lorena Rionda, Carolyn Cureton and Selin Devrimci.

Nova Southeastern will host the 2019 SSC men's and women's tennis championships April 25th - 27th at IMG Academy in Bradenton, Florida. Winners of each tournament will receive automatic qualification to the 2019 NCAA Division II Championships. First and second rounds for the 2019 NCAA Championships will be played at non-predetermined sites May 11th - 14th. Finals for both men and women will take place Tuesday, May 21st - Saturday, May 25th at Sanlando Park in Altamonte Springs, Florida.
