HILTON HEAD, SC - The 15th-ranked Florida Southern women's tennis team wrapped up its three-game road trip here with a 7-2 win over Tiffin Monday morning. The Moccasins (5-3) won two of three doubles matches and five of the six singles contests against Tiffin (11-7).
Tiffin put the first point on the scoreboard as Abbie-Jade Riley and Lauren Prince topped Florida Southern's Nina Schwab and Magda Stepnik, 8-1, at number two doubles. Natalija Popovic and Gabby Hesse answered for the Moccasins with an 8-2 victory over Cassandra Weidner and Milah Ryland at number three while Sasha Nionova and Lorena Rionda gave Florida Southern a 2-1 lead with an 8-4 triumph over Anais Geslina and Juliette Sirgant.
Nionova, ranked 13th nationally, got things rollings for the Moccasins in singles play with a 6-2, 6-0 win over Riley at number one, while Rionda, ranked 17th in the South Region, defeated Lauren Prince, 6-1, 6-1. Popovic then clinched the match for Florida Southern with a 6-4, 6-4 victory over Geslin at number three.
Stepnik kept things going the Moccasins' way with a 6-3, 6-0 tally over Ryland at number four singles while Avery Hunter picked up the Mocs finally score with a 6-3, 6-0 decision over Weidner. Sirgant ruined FSC's singles shutout bid with a 6-4, 7-6 win against Lola Asis.
Florida Southern returns home to the Wynee Warden Tennis Center on Tuesday, March 13 against North Georgia in a 3 p.m. match.
