FT. LAUDERDALE - Florida Southern rallied from 2-1 deficit after doubles play to record a 6-3 road win at Nova Southeastern University here Sunday in Sunshine State Conference women's tennis action at the NSU Tennis Center at Rolling Hills. With the win, the 25th-ranked Moccasins improve to 11-5 overall and 5-2 in the league, while the No. 26 Sharks drop to 5-8 and 2-4.
Nova Southeastern's Simone Pratt and Nastassia Rubel downed Linnea Skymberg and Natalija Popovic, 8-3, at number two doubles and then NSU's Luicelena Perez and Isabella Lowrey topped Sasha Nionova and Selin Devrimci, 8-4, at number one. The Moccasins duo of Lorena Rionda and Magda Stepnik staved off a Sharks sweep with an 8-4 win over Eva Agasse and Alex Kaeser at number one.
In singles, Popovic tied the match at 2-all for the Moccasins with a 6-1, 4-6, 6-4 win over Arina Sharonova at number five while Nionova dropped a 6-1, 7-6 (7-2) decision to Perez at number one.
Devrimci rallied from a first set defeat to top Agasse, 3-6, 6-2, 6-1 at number four and Skymberg hung on to down Pratt, 6-2, 2-6, 6-4 at number two to pull the Moccasins ahead, 4-3.
Lola Asis then clinched the match for the Moccasins with a 6-1, 3-6, 6-4 decision at number six over Sharonova. Rionda capped the win with a 6-7, 6-4, 6-3 victory at number three over Rubel.
The Moccasin will travel to Daytona Beach on Thursday to face Embry-Riddle at 3:30 p.m.
