ST. PETERSBURG, FL - Florida Southern dropped just four doubles points and a total of four sets in singles to easily defeat Eckerd, 9-0, here Monday in Sunshine State Conference women's tennis. It is the second straight conference win for the Moccasins, who improve to 2-3 overall and 2-0 in the league.
Lorena Rionda and Magda Stepnik picked up the Mocs first win with a 8-2 win at number two doubles over Eckerd's Mary Ann Aaron and Bailey Koronich. Lola Asis and Gabby Hesse followed with an 8-0 victory at number three over Maddie Carlson and Laurence Bourgault while Selin Devrimci and Natalija Popvic kept the ball rolling with an 8-2 triumph at number one singles over Fridrick and Jayne Fields.
In singles, Asis topped Isabelle Wong in straight sets, 6-0, 6-0, at number five singles while Popovic sealed the win with another straight set victory, 6-0, 6-0, over Bailey Koronich at number three singles.
Rionda won out, 6-2, 6-0, at number one over Fields while Devrimci won, 6-0, 6-1, at number two against Aaron. Stepnik won, 6-0, 6-1, at number four over Bourgault while Hesse posted a 6-0, 6-0 win at number six over Carlson.
Florida Southern will finally play its first home match of the year on March 2 at 3 p.m. against Tampa.
