MERCER, GA - Florida Southern wrapped up play in the Mercer Gridiron Classic with six victories in the various flights here at the LeRoy Peddy Tennis Center.
In the Seahawks Doubles Division, Lorena Rionda and Magda Stepnik took home the championship when their opponents, Gabriela Lockova and Juliane Curic of Alabama State, retired. In the Dolphins Doubles Division, Sasha Nionova and Selin Devrimci won the consolation title in a similiar manner as their foes, Yannick Garcia and Shelby Ashley of Middle Georgia State, defaulted.
In the Bills Singles Division, Nionova won out over Katia Stavroulaki of Mercer, 3-6, 2-4 (retired) in the semifinals and then fell, 3-6, 6-2, 10-3, to Georgia State's Lara Vovk in the championship match.
In the Falcons Singles Division, Devrimci downed Lili Pastore of Savannah State, in straight sets, 6-1, 6-1 in the consolation semifinals. The championship match was not played.
In the 49ers Singles Division, Katie Stanford had received a bye to Sunday's semifinals match against Rachida Kateb of Savannah State, but due to time restraints, the bracket was not played out.
Finally, in the Cowboys Singles Division, Avery Hunter dropped a 6-2, 1-6, 10-5, match to Haley Powell of Mercer in the bracket semifinals.
