Rionda & Stepnik Move on to Semifinals at Mercer Gridiron Classic

MACON, GA - The doubles team of Lorena Rionda and Magda Stepnik got a first round bye and then defeated the combined team of Jovana Parlic of Alabama State and Paige Christian of Georgia Southern, 6-2, to advance to the semifinals of the Seahawks Division Doubles of the Mercer Gridiron Classic played here Friday at the LeRoy Peddy Tennis Center. Rionda and Stepnik will face Mercer's Christie Cesarino and Haley Powell on Saturday.

Also in the Seahawks Doubles, Avery Hunter and Katie Stanford fell to Jacqueline Heer and Laura Cocoma of Middle Georgia in the opening round. They then got a bye in the first round of the consolation bracket and will face Anna Sovic and Andrea Peteu of Mercer in the semifinals on Saturday.

In Dolphins Division Doubles, Sasha Nionova and Selin Devrimci received a first-round bye and then lost, 6-4, to Lara Persiana and Preeti Gokhale of Middle Georgia State. In the consolation round, Nionova and Devrimci topped Mercer's Sidor and Mottet to move on to the semifinals Saturday against Alabama State's Olivia Rolle and Justine Henry.

Singles play gets underway Saturday.

In the Bills Division, Nionova will take on Middle Georgia State's Gokhale while Rionda will face Mercer's Katie Sidor while in the Falcons Division, Devrimci will play MGSU's Nathalie Wenko

In the 49ers Division, Stepnik will tangle with MGSU's Yannick Garcia and Stanford will battle with Florida A&M's Sophia Osabuohien while, in the Cowboys Division, Hunter will square off against Alabama State's Parlic.
