LAKELAND - Two Florida Southern doubles teams have advanced to the quarterfinals of the USTA/ITA South Region Championships played here Saturday at the Wynee Warden Tennis Center on the FSC campus.
Sasha Nionova and Lorena Rionda took on the fifth-seeded team of Alejandra Gil and Iris Verweij of Auburn-Montgomery and emerged with a 8-4 win. The duo will face Georgina Morral and Amina Mukhametshina of West Alabama in the quarterfinals Sunday at 11 a.m.
Selin Devrimci and Linnea Skymberg also faced a fifth-seed, downing Anna Rudolfova and Kelly Southwood of Auburn-Montgomery by an 8-5 score. Their next match will be Sunday against Larsen and Salnikova of Barry on Sunday after singles competition is completed.
In singles, Skymberg lost her match, falling 6-3, 6-1, to Daria Salnikova of Barry, while Rionda fell 6-1, 6-1, to Grace Mpassy of Lynn.
In the consolation of the singles bracket, Magda Stepnik was eliminated, 6-3, 6-4 by Eckerd's Isabella Wong.
