Mocs Fall 9-0 to #5 Lynn in Spring Season Opener

LAKELAND - Florida Southern opened its 2016 Spring Season at home against #5 Lynn and dropped a 9-0 decision to the Knights in a match played here at the Warden Tennis Center.

Selin Devrimci was the only Moccasin to avoid a sweep, taking 20th-ranked Martina Gledacheva to three sets before falling 6-7, 6-0, 10-8 in number three singles.

The match began with doubles action with Lynn's Diana Bogoli and Rosalie Willig, the number one doubles team in the ITA national rankings, posting an 8-0 win over Florida Southern's Sasha Nionova and Linnea Skymberg.

The Knights' team of Tania Alaby and Gledacheva then downed the Mocs' number three team of Natalija Popovic and Carolyn Cureton by an 8-2 score. Lynn then capped the doubles competition with an 8-3 win at number two as Grace Mpassy and Carolina Ceuvas won out over Devrimci and Lorena Rionda.

In singles, Lynn's 8th-ranked Bogolii def. Nionova at number one by a 7-6, 6-3 score, while the Mpassy topped Skymberg 6-2, 6-1 at number two. Cuevas beat Rionda 7-5, 6-3 at number four while Alina Jane won over Popovic, 6-3, 6-2, at number five. Alaby won at number six with a 6-2, 7-5 victory over Cureton.

Florida Southern plays at home on Wednesday, Feb. 24, against Flagler at 3 pm at the Warden Tennis Center in a make-up for a game that was rained out on April 27.
