PENSACOLA – Sasha Nionova, Selin Devrimci, and Lorena Rionda, all advanced to the semifinals of the UTSA/ITA South Regional Championships consolation bracket here Sunday here at the Ralph "Skeeter" Carson Tennis Complex on the campus of the University of West Florida. Due to time constraints, the decision was made not to play out the consolation bracket.
Nionova beat Florida Tech's Chloe Chanley, 6-3, 6-3, Sunday morning's quarterfinal round while Devrimci downed Erin Egoroff, also of Florida Tech, by scores of 6-2, 6-3. That would have pitted both Moccasins in one-half of the consolation bracket semifinals on Monday.
In the other half, Rionda was beaten by Embry-Riddle's Anna Gotz by scores of 6-4, 6-4, in the quarterfinals. Rionda then moved on to play Palm Beach Atlantic's Valeria Nagovitcina where she fell 6-3, 6-2. Nagovitcina would have played the winner of the Nionova/Devrimci match for the consolaton bracket title.
The Moccasin will play next on Oct. 2-4 at the C.L. Varner Memorial Invitational in Winter Park, hosted by Rollins College.
