LAKELAND, FLA. – The Florida Southern College women's lacrosse program has announced its schedule for the upcoming 2020 season. Head Coach Kara Reber's club will play 17 regular season games, with 12 being played on campus at Moccasin Field.
The Mocs will play one of the more challenging schedules in the country, facing nine different teams that advanced into the NCAA Championships a year ago.
"We are excited to play such a competitive schedule this season," said Reber. "Having the opportunity to compete against some of the best teams in the country will allow us to elevate our game throughout the season with the expectation that we will improve our play each and every game."
Southern will be challenged right from the beginning, opening the season with a two-game road swing in Georgia. On Feb. 14, FSC opens at Young Harris, before returning two days later to play the University of Indianapolis. The UIndy game starts a string of five consecutive games against opponents who made the NCAA Championships a year ago.
Upon returning home, the Mocs will face the defending national champions, Adelphi University, on Feb. 20. A year ago, Adelphi came to Lakeland and squeaked out an 11-9 victory, as a late Southern rally was not enough.
Beginning with the Adelphi game, Florida Southern will be home for eight consecutive games, including Lindenwood on Feb. 23, Seton Hill on Feb. 29, and Queens (N.C.) on March 2. All three made the NCAA's last year, with Queens defeating Tampa and Rollins to reach the Division II Final Four.
The home stand continues with Wingate coming to Lakeland on March 4, Regis (Colo.) on March 6, and Stonehill on March 11. The Mercy College Mavericks return to the schedule after a year hiatus, appearing at Moccasin Field on March 14.
Sunshine State Conference play opens on March 21, with a trip to Melbourne to play Florida Tech. Then the Mocs return home for back-to-back dates with Saint Leo (March 24) and Palm Beach Atlantic (March 28).
In April, conference play continues with a trip to Daytona Beach to play Embry-Riddle, and a home date with Lynn. The regular season ends with games against conference rivals Rollins and Tampa. A year ago, FSC, Rollins and Tampa all shared in the regular season championship, with all three advancing into the NCAA Championships.
The Sunshine State Conference Championships will begin on April 23 on campus sites, with the title match slated for April 26.
