MELBOURNE, FL - Florida Southern women's lacrosse student-athletes Riley Bannatyne and Sam Keesey both earned Sunshine State Conference player of the week honors as announced by the conference office Monday afternoon. Last week, the Mocs went 2-0 defeating then No. 2 ranked Rollins and Embry-Riddle.
Bannatyne totaled nine goals on 10 total shots, a groundball, a caused turnover, and a draw control in the Mocs two victories last week. In Florida Southern's 16-11 victory over then No. 2 Rollins, she totaled five goals, putting the Mocs up 2-0 early in a 32-second span and also recorded the eventual game-winning goal in the second half. She recorded four goals in the Mocs 21-10 victory over Embry-Riddle. Bannatyne currently leads the team with 35 goals and is second with 36 points.
Keesey won 13 draw controls, caused eight turnovers and picked up six ground balls while assisting on one goal. She helped anchor a defense that held then No. 2 Rollins' top two scorers to season lows in goals. In this victory, Keesey won a season-high nine draw controls, caused a pair of Tars turnovers and picked up two ground balls. She finished the week causing six turnovers by the Eagles, picking up four ground balls and winning four draw controls. As a defender, she set a season-high in caused turnovers and a career-high with four total assists on the season. She currently leads the SSC in caused turnovers (33) and caused turnovers per game (2.54). Sara Tomasello is second behind Keesey, with 16 caused turnovers.
The Mocs are back in action tomorrow night at Saint Leo at 7 p.m.
