Women's Lacrosse Raises More Than $2,000 to #StopSuicide

LAKELAND, FL - In partnership with Lax4Life, the Florida Southern College women's lacrosse team raised more than $2,000 last weekend to help benefit the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP) in its mission to #StopSuicide. The Moccasins designated their game against Florida Tech last Saturday as their Lax4Life game to help raise donations and awareness in the fight against suicide. The Mocs are still accepting donations online through their Facebook page, click HERE for more.

"I am so proud of our team and our fans for helping us blow away our goal at this year's Lax4Life event," said head coach Kara Reber. "Mental health and suicide awareness is something that has hit very close to home for many of our players and coaches, and we've made a commitment as a team to help those around us who might be struggling with mental health. Our team has done an amazing job of making a difference already, but we also know there is a lot more work to do."

During last Saturday's game, players and coaches from both teams wore Lax4Life shirts with the name of a loved one on the back, representing someone they know personally who has battled depression or other mental illness. The Lax4Life game was held in conjunction with a year-long fundraising effort by Florida Southern's Student-Athlete Advisory Council to help raise funds for the AFSP. ABOUT LAX4LIFE

LAX 4 LIFE, INC. is a national lacrosse campaign to provide and support programs geared toward adolescent and young adult suicide prevention awareness.

In the spring of 2009, an idea was brought to the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Women's Lacrosse Coaches by Ginny Martino (Head coach West Chester University). That idea was to tackle an issue that college coaches, teams and communities deal with every day...adolescent suicide and life after suicide. During the 2009 season, 10 teams across the state of Pennsylvania participated in games and raised funds for the Allyson Rose Green Memorial Foundation (www.allysonsfund.org); a foundation started after the younger sister of a West Chester University player committed suicide at the age of 16. As a result, LAX-4-LIFE was born.
