As a junior (2017-18)… Sunshine State Conference Commissioner’s Honor Roll… Played in eight of the team’s 11 regular season evens (four in the regular lineup and four as an individual) with a 78.63 stroke average, dropping that average for the second year in a row… Saw that average fall even lower in her last three tournaments (the Lady Moc Classic, Peggy Kirk Bell, and Barry Invitational) when she posted a 77.44 average for nine rounds as an individual… Team counter in seven of her nine rounds in the lineup… Had one top-20 tournament finish and narrowly missed another by tying for 21st out of 95 golfers at the Battle at Old South (Sept. 23-24)… Had her best finish at the Lady Falcon Invitational, tying for 12th out of 57 golfers with a +14 (81-77 = 158)… Missed the best round of her career by one stroke when she shot a one-over par 73 in the second round of the Peggy Kirk Bell Memorial Invitational (March 5).
As a sophomore (2016-17)… Sunshine State Conference Commissioner’s Honor Roll… Played in seven of the Moccasins 11 tournaments, four with the main varsity lineup, two as an individual and one with the “B” team… Dropped more than three strokes off her average from the fall to the spring, and was at 77.44 over her last three tournaments… Best performance of the season came in the Lady Moc Classic (Feb. 20-21) where she tied for 17th out of 98 golfers with a 227 (75-76-76) and was Florida Southern’s #2 golfer in the tournament… Second year in a row she had her best score of the season at the Lady Moc Classic, following a 227 in her freshman year, which was the team’s best in 2016… Best single-round score was a two-over 74 in the opening round of the Barry Women’s Invitational (March 27), giving her a 77 or better in six of her final nine rounds.
As a freshman (2015-16)… Played in six tournaments, two in the fall and four in the spring… Finished the year with an 80.25 stroke average that was third on the team and had one top-10 finish… Split her time between the main squad (3 tournaments) and the “B” team (3 tournaments)… Owned a 77.91 average during the spring portion of the schedule… In her first tournament as a member of the Mocs’ top team, had rounds of 81 and 78 to tie for 17th place among 85 golfers with a 159 at the Tusculum/Kiawah Island Intercollegiate (Feb. 6-7)… Her 78 in the second round was the Mocs’ best score of the day… Followed her strong finish at Kiawah Island by turning in Florida Southern’s best score in the Lady Moc Classic (Feb. 22-23) with a 227 (76-79-72)… Remained with the Mocs’ top team at the Peggy Kirk Bell Invitational before playing in her final tournament as the “B” team’s top golfer at the Barry Women’s Invitational where she had a 73 in the second round… Team counter in six of her eight rounds with the main team… Had Florida Southern’s best score or tied for the best score of the round five times.
In high school… Came to FSC from Harmony High School in central Florida where she played four years for coach Rob Hainlen… Helped lead the Longhorns to three straight Orange Belt Conference championships from 2012-14… Finished 12th out of 95 golfers at the Class 3A state tournament as a senior in 2014, shooting scores of 78 and 77… One of only two freshmen to finish in the top-20 of the Class 2A District 17 tournament in 2011… Moved up to seventh place as a sophomore when she helped Harmony finish as district runner-up… Had two more top-10 finishes as a junior and senior when Harmony competed in 3A, and shot a 77 at the district tournament in 2014… Won the Greater Orlando Junior Golf Tour Winter Classic Girls 14-18 division in March of 2014, then finished third in the Top 50 Jr. Tour North Florida Championship in June with a 2-round score of 163… Tied for fifth at the Major Championship on the Premier Junior Tour in August of 2015 with a 2-round total of 158 just prior to joining the Moccasins for her freshman year… Came into college ranked 45th on the Premier Junior Tour for women age 14-19… Personal… Daughter of Jay and Celia Wetzel… Has two sisters (Heather and Katherine)… Uncle, Brian Wetzel, also attended Florida Southern.
