Giardina Named 2019 MVP

LAKELAND, Fla. - Throughout the month of July, Florida Southern College Athletics will release its list of team MVPs for the 2018-19 season. Each MVP was selected by the team's head coach, and the list includes some of the top student-athletes in the country. MVPs will be revealed each weekday during the month at 10 a.m., and a list of their scheduled release dates can be found below.

The next MVP on our list is Camille Giardina of the women's basketball team. Giardina was the Sunshine State Conference Player of the Year, a WBCA and D2CCA all-American, and the D2CCA South Region Player of the Year. Giardina helped lead the Mocs to a program-record 30 wins, SSC regular-season and tournament titles, and the top seed in the NCAA Division II South Regional. She averaged 19.8 points per game, the top mark in the SSC, and shot 48.3 percent from the floor as a senior. Her 654 total points this year were the second-most in a single season in school history, and she ended her career with 1,939 points, fourth-most in program history.

Florida Southern women's basketball won both the SSC regular-season and tournament titles and set a program record with 30 wins in 2018-19. The Mocs earned the top seed in the NCAA South Regional and hosted the regional for the first time since 1995, advancing to the South Region title game, finishing as the runner-up. Florida Southern led the SSC in 12 different statistical categories, and was among the top 20 nationally in nine categories.
