Trio of Mocs Earn SSC Honors

MELBOURNE, FL - Camille Giardina earned SSC Player of the Year honors, Betsy Harris was named SSC Coach of the Year, and Anja Fuchs-Robetin was named as a first-team all-SSC selection when the Sunshine State Conference released its list of the 2018-19 women's basketball award winners on Thursday. Giardina's selection as Player of the Year is the first of her career, while Harris won her third Coach of the Year honor.

Giardina led the SSC with 19.1 points per game, and finished among the top five in total points (507), rebounds (250), field-goal percentage (.479), free-throw percentage (.795), steals (53), and minutes per game (28.4). The seventh Moccasin to earn SSC Player of the Year Honors, Giardina is also the second-straight Florida Southern player to earn the award after Fuchs-Robetin brought home the honor last year.

This season Giardina was named SSC Player of the Week twice while leading the Mocs to their 14th SSC regular-season title, the most in conference history. A three-time all-American, Giardina was a first-team all-SSC selection in each of the previous two seasons and was the league's Freshman of the Year in 2015-16.

Harris, who earned Coach of the Year honors both last season and in 2015-16, led Florida Southern to an 18-2 mark in SSC play this year. The Moccasins were tops in the conference in scoring margin (20.3), scoring offense (77.3 ppg), and turnover margin (5.96). Southern's 14 SSC regular-season titles are the most in conference history.

Fuchs-Robetin, who was the 2017-18 SSC Player of the Year and a first-team selection in 2016-17, ranked third in the SSC in points per game (17.9), 11th in rebounds (6.5), first in field-goal percentage (.556), and first free-throw percentage (.854). She was named as the SSC Player of the Week four times this season and was the SSC Defensive Player of the Week once. She was also recently named as a Google Cloud/CoSIDA Academic all-District honoree.

With Giardina's selection as Player of the Year, Florida Southern has now won the award a total of 11 times in program history. It is the fourth time that the Mocs have won the award in back-to-back years and the first time since Emma Cannon and Michaela Hawley won during the 2010-11 and 2011-12 seasons, respectively.

Florida Southern defeated Barry in the SSC Tournament quarterfinals on Wednesday and will face Nova Southeastern at 12 p.m. on Saturday in the semifinal round at NSU's Rick Case Arena. The winner will face either Rollins or Eckerd on Sunday for the 2019SSC Tournament title.
