TUPELO, MS - Florida Southern College water ski made its season debut with another solid showing at this year's National Collegiate Water Ski Association (NCWSA) Eastern Regional. The Moccasins placed second overall as a combined men's/women's team as the Florida Southern men took first in the slalom and trick competitions, while the women were second in the slalom, trick, and jump categories. Four different skiers earned individual championships over the weekend.
Paige Rini was the overall top women's skier of the meet with third-place finishes in the trick (3,080 points) and jump (133 points) competitions, and sixth-place showing in the slalom (93 points - 12.0 buoys at 55). Allie Nicholson won the women's slalom with 101.50 points (11.25 buoys at 55), and Valentina Gonzalez was the women's champion in the jump category with 140 points. She also took second in the trick competition (3,760 points).
On the men's side, Tanguy Dailland won the trick competition with 6,420 points, while Aris Techoueyres came in third (4,060). Ryan Harris (4th - 145 points) and Kevin Spicer (6th - 125 points) had solid showings in the jump category, and Jamie Calhoun (106.5 points - 11.25 buoys at 58) and Landon Geels (106 points - 11.25 at 58) finished third and fourth in the slalom.
The Moccasins will head to San Marcos, Texas from Oct. 11-13 to compete in the NCWSA National Championships.
