DAYTONA BEACH, FL - Mason Jones paced Florida Southern College men's cross country by posting a fifth-place finish, and the Moccasins put together another strong showing by taking second in the Embry-Riddle Asics Classic on Saturday morning. The Mocs also saw runners finish 12th (Dean McGregor) and 15th (Josh Wagner) as they tallied 68 total points to finish well ahead of third-place Flagler and in front of a number of Division I opponents.
Jones posted a mark of 26:49.58 in the men's 8K to place highest among all FSC's runners. McGregor finished in a time of 27:24.21 in his first action of the season, while Wagner posted a time of 27:38.19. Mitchell Kozik recorded the third-best time of his career, finishing in 18th place with a time of 27:47.54. The Mocs finished second among all Division II participants in Saturday's meet and were ahead of Division I programs Bethune-Cookman and Seton Hall.
The Moccasins are expected to run next at the Queen City Invitational in Charlotte, NC on Sept. 29, but the after-effects of Hurricane Florence may alter those plans. Should that met be canceled, Florida Southern will likely run at next week's UF Mountain Dew Invitational in Gainesville. Check FSCMocs.com for any schedule updates.
