Ormsby Breaks School Record in 5000-Meter at Pepsi Florida Relays

GAINESVILLE - Senior Bobby Ormsby ran the fastest 5000-meter time in Florida Southern history with a 14:37.76 to finish 15th out of 41 competitors at the Pepsi Florida Relays held here Thursday at the Percy Beard Track. Ormsby's time shaved over two seconds off the previous record of 14:40.47 set by Ben Martucci, now the Moccasins head coach, at the UNF Spring Break Invitational on March 4, 2011. Ormsby now holds five of the top six fastest Moccasins times in the event.

In addition, Mason Jones, the FSC freshman record holder in the 5000, came close to breaking his record, missing by two seconds, turning in a 14:54.87 falling short of his mark of 14:52.82 turned in on March 2 of this season at the UT Ryan McCall Invite. Jones now holds the seventh and eighth fastest times over for any Moccasin record at this distance.

On Friday, senior Evan Quinones will compete in the 1500-meter as the Moccasins lone competitor on the evening.
