DAYTONA BEACH - Festus Kemboi set a Florida Southern freshman record in the 1500-meter while several runners set personal bests in the same race as FSC's men track team competed here Saturday at the Division II Florida Collegiate Invitational hosted by Embry-Riddle University.
Kemboi took first place honors in the 1500m with a FSC freshman record time of 3:58.00 while Dean McGregor came in fourth with a personal best time of 4:00.60 and Warran Grajalez took 10th place at 4:12.70. Also competing were Everett Wagner (4:21.40); Pedro Cuervo (4:21.80 - personal best); Oswaldo Zapata (4:27.50 - personal best); Christian Beauchemin (4:30.00 - personal best); Brandon Williams (4:31.90); Risley Mabile (4:35.10); and Mikey Papa (4:53.90).
In the 3000-meter steeple Chase, Cody Van Natter finished in second place with a time of 11:07.74, which is the fourth best time for a Moccasin runner in the event.
Yan Perez competed in the 400-meter and turned in a time of 58.74.
Grajalez posted a 2:01.60 to take seventh place in the 800-meter while Drake Baker was next at 2:03.25, followed by Cuervo (2:09.50 - personal best); Zapata (2:12.15); Beauchemin (2:14.97), Mabile (2:15.50); and Perez (2:25.60).
