Ormsby Falls One-Tenth of a Second Short of School Record at Florida Relays

GAINESVILLE, Fla. - Florida Southern sophomore Robert Ormsby fell one-tenth of a second shy of the school's outdoor track 5,000-meter record at the 2015 Pepsi Florida Relays, hosted by the University of Florida at the Percy Beard Track.

Ormsby, who set a school record in the 3,000-meter run earlier this season, finished the 5K with a time of 14:40.57, just short of the record head coach Ben Martucci set during the 2011 season. Ormsby took 16th place and was second among Division II runners.

"Robert continued his tremendous season with another outstanding performance today," said Martucci. "I couldn't be more proud of him. He's still young and needs some experience, but give him time to grow and his future is very, very bright."

The Fort Myers, Fla., native shaved nearly 18 seconds off his time from last year's Florida State Relays, which now stands as the fifth-best time in program history.

Senior Kyle Butler (Melbourne, Fla.) also competed in the 5K, earning a 39th-place finish with a time of 16:03.59.

The Florida Southern men's track team will return to action on Saturday, April 11 at the University of Tampa Invitational.
