DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. - The Florida Southern men's track team earned a pair of top-12 finishes in the 5,000-meter race and a sixth-place finish in the 4x800-meter relay at the ERAU Spikes Classic on Friday.
The Moccasins competed in the 4x800 for the first time this season, and the group consisting of freshmen Christian Beauchemin (Pembroke Pines, Fla.) and John Bryant (Valrico, Fla.), sophomore Cody Van Natter (Spring Hill, Fla.) and junior Jose Perez (Haines City, Fla.) finished with the third-best time in school history at 8:27.06.
Six runners competed in the 5K, led by Perez and Van Natter with personal records. Perez turned in a personal-record time of 15:31.67, over 12 seconds faster than his time from the Bulls Invitational on March 19. He finished in eighth place. Van Natter's 15:48.76 was eight-and-a-half seconds better than his time at the UNF Spring Break Invitational on March 28, 2014 and good enough for 12th place.
Beauchemin followed in 32nd place with a time of 16:46.43. Senior Logan Selzer (Wesley Chapel, Fla.) came in 38th at 17:10.01. Senior Andrew Coull (Royersford, Pa.) over 31 seconds off his 5K time from last month's Bulls Invitational and took 41st at 17:21.22. Freshman Oswaldo Zapata (Haines City, Fla.) rounded out the Mocs with a 44th-place finish at 18:43.41.
The Florida Southern men's track team will return to action on Saturday, April 11 at the University of Tampa Invitational.
