TAMPA, Fla. - Freshman John Bryant and junior Jose Perez paced Florida Southern in the 800- and 1,500-meter races, respectively, to conclude the second day of events at the 2015 Bulls Invitational, hosted by the University of South Florida at the USF Track & Field Stadium.
Although he placed higher in the 800-meter at the USF Invitational on March 13 with a 10th-place finish, Bryant (Valrico, Fla.) set a personal record in the event at 2:00.59, 43-hundredths of a second faster than his time from last week's race. Bryant finished in 16th place.
Alex Sessums (Lakeland, Fla.) shaved nearly six seconds off his 800-meter time from last week's USF Invite with a 2:12.68 and a 27th-place finish. Tony Martino (Lakeland, Fla.) and Drew Galloway (Maitland, Fla.) rounded out the pack for the Mocs in the 800 in 30th and 31st, respectively.
Six Mocs competed in the 1,500-meter race, led by Perez (Haines Coty, Fla.) in 13th place. He was clocked at 4:16.25. Senior Kyle Butler (Melbourne, Fla.), who finished seventh in yesterday's 5K, came in 17th with a time of 4:21.94.
Freshman Pedro Cuervo (Lakeland, Fla.) crossed the finish line in 23rd place (4:29.73), followed in order by senior Andrew Coull (Royersford, Pa.), and freshmen Christian Beauchemin (Pembroke Pines, Fla.) and Oswaldo Zapata (Haines City, Fla.) in 25th, 26th and 27th.
The Mocs will continue the track season on Friday, March 27 and Saturday, March 28 at the UNF Spring Break Invitational, hosted by the University of North Florida at Hodges Stadium.
