Men's Tennis Season Comes to an End at SSC Tournament

BRADENTON, FL - The Florida Southern men's tennis season came to a close Thursday with a 5-0 loss at the hands of No. 2 ranked Barry in the quarterfinals of the Sunshine State Conference Tournament played here at the IMG Academy.

Barry, now 18-2, advances to play Lynn in the semifinals Friday at 2 p.m. Florida Southern finishes the 2018 campaign with an 8-11 record.

The Buccaneers swept the doubles matches with Carlos Gomez and Vivien Versier posting an 8-0 win over FSC's Blaine Miller and Victor Ahlbeck at number three; Fernando Tous and Filip Zupancic edging Miguel Alvarez-Hevia and Matt Matsuyama, 8-6 at number one; and Blake Bayldon and Matias Larregina got by Derek Bell and Tim Becker, 8-5, at number two.

In singles, 49th ranked Daniel Ventura defeated Becker, 6-0, 6-0 at number four and Versier, ranked 68th, downed Alvaro Arias, 6-1, 6-3 at number two.

In tournament play, the two teams play until one squad wins five points and the match is then called at that point and any remaining matches still in play are halted.
