TEMPE, AZ - Despite winning two matches this past week, the Florida Southern men's tennis dropped two spots to 45th in the Oracle/ITA NCAA Division II national ranking as released today by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association.
Last week, the Moccasins made their first appearance in the national poll at number 43 but fell two spots this week despite a 9-0 win over Eckerd and a 7-2 triumph over Florida Tech.
Florida Southern will take an 8-7 overall record and a 2-3 mark in the Sunshine State Conference into Thursday's 2 p.m. home match with 12th-ranked Embry-Riddle at the Wynee Warden Tennis Center. The Eagles sport a 10-5 mark and are 3-2 in the conference.
Fellow SSC member Saint Leo jumps up from number four to take over the top spot vacated by another SSC school, Barry, which drops to number two. Rounding out the top five are Lander, Columbus State, Lynn, the third SSC institution ranked in the top five.
In addition, other SSC schools ranked include Embry-Riddle (#12), Palm Beach Atlantic (#21), and Rollins (#49),
The ITA also released it's singles and doubles national rankings and two Moccasins appear this week. Victor Ahlbeck (8-6 in singles play) leaps into the number 55 spot nationally after not being ranked last week while Alvaro Arias (6-7) moves up two spots to number 58.
Florida Southern has two regular-season matches following Thursday's Embry-Riddle match, traveling to #2 Barry on April 78 before closing out the regular season on April 10 againsy#49 Rollins.
