Florida Southern Sunk By Sailfish, 8-1, in Men's Tennis

WEST PALM BEACH, FL – Florida Southern fell to 24th-ranked Palm Beach Atlantic, 8-1, in a Sunshine State Conference match here Saturday at the Mitch Gornto Tennis Center.

Lennart Vossgaetter grabbed the Moccasins lone win with a 6-4, 6-3 victory over Thomas Salmon at number five singles.

In doubles, Miguel Alvarez-Hevia and Matt Matsuyama fell 9-8 (7-5) to Philipp Hoffmann and Bernardo Ferreira at number one while Derek Bell and Tim Becker dropped an 8-0 match to Pato Zarazua and Pietro de Silva at number two. Blaine Miller and Victor Ahlbeck were defeated by Rodolfo Hasegawa and Thomas Salmon, 8-5, at number three.

Alvaro Arias, ranked 46th in the ITA NCAA Division II national rankings, was defeated by Zaraua, 7-6 (7-5), 6-2 at number one singles while Alvarez-Hevia was stopped, 6-4, 7-6 (7-3) by Hoffman at number two.

Ahlbeck battled, but was toppled in three sets, 6-3, 4-6, 6-1 by Hasegawa at number three and Becker also fell in three sets, 6-1, 4-6, 3-2 (ret.) at number four.

Finally, Blaine Miller was defeated 6-2, 6-1 by Carlos Niemeyer at number six.

Florida Southern will play at third-ranked Lynn on Sunday at 11 a.m. in Boca Raton.
