MACON, GA - The Florida Southern men's tennis team wrapped up its fall season by competing in the Mercer Gridiron Classic played here over the weekend at the LeRoy Peddy Tennis Center on the campus of Mercer University.
In the Jets Division, Alvaro Arias topped Masao Perrett of Middle Georgia, 4-6, 6-4, 6-0 and then fell 6-0, 6-4 to Ignacio Garrida of USC Upstate.
In the Panthers Division, Lennart Vossgäetter defeated Middle Georgia's Alejandro Prada, 6-4, 6-0, and then was defeated, 6-4, 6-4, by USC Upstate's Luke Eble. Also, Tim Becker fell, 1-6, 6-3, 6-4, to Enzo Kohn of Georgia College.
In the Raiders Division, Brian Wilson had to withdraw from his match against Sam Schiano of USC Upstate due to illness, and Lance Francisco was defeated by Middle Georgia's Santino Romeo, 6-3, 6-1. In addition, Matt Matsuyama triumphed over Leandro Otero of Middle Georgia, 6-0, 6-4, and then lost, 7-6, 6-4 to Georgia's Southern's Carlos Garcia while Blaine Miller fell to Mercer's John Wharton, 6-2, 4-6, 6-2.
In doubles, in the Cowboys Division, Ahlbeck and Alvarez fell, 6-2, to Austin Peay's Almantas Ozelis and Christian Alvin Edison while Arias and Francisco dropped a 6-1 decision to Arora and Fernando Bernardes of USC Upstate.
Also in doubles in the Dolphins Division, Miller and Becker topped Troy's Chris Tasker and Samuel Bird, 6-4, and then lost 7-6 to Eble and Francisco Neto of USC Upstate. Also, Matsuyama and Vossgäetter were edged, 7-6, by North Georgia's Kevin Candido Magnusson and Carl Bedrot.
