INDIANAPOLIS, IN - The Florida Southern College men's tennis team is ranked 7th in the initial NCAA Division II South Region rankings released Wednesday. The rankings will be used to determine the eight-team field for the two regional tournaments May 9-12 at sites to be announced.
Florida Southern has a 10-6 overall record and is 6-4 against teams from the South Region. West Florida holds down the top spot with a 20-0 overall mark and a 15-0 record in the region while Barry is next with a 12-1 record and a 10-1 in-region mark. Rounding out the top five are Valdosta State (12-4 overall / 10-3 region), Lynn (11-2 / 6-2), and Saint Leo (8-2 / 6-2).
Miguel Alvarez-Hevia leads the Moccasins with a 12-4 singles record, including a 10-2 mark at number five. Laurent Mailloux is next with a 10-6 record with an 8-2 mark at number four singles. Jose de Sario, Brian Slivonik, and Oscar Soderlund have all recorded nine wins on the season.
Florida Southern has three matches remaining in the regular season and will host Saint Leo this Saturday at 11 a.m. at the Wynee Warden Tennis Center. Prior to the match, the Moccasin will honor their senior players – de Sario, Mailloux, Fabian Lundger, and Brian Slivonik.
The Moccasins then play April 11 at Embry-Riddle with the regular season finale, April 15, at Rollins in a match rescheduled from the April 4 rained out match.
The Sunshine State Conference Championship Tournament takes place April 20-22 at the IMG Academy in Bradenton.
