Alvarez-Hevia Wins Flight Championship at Florida Tech Invitational

MELBOURNE - Miguel Alvarez-Hevia fought back from a opening set defeat to post a 3-6, 7-6, 10-6 victory over J.J. Clark of the host Florida Tech Panthers to win the championship of the Singles Flight 2 held here Sunday at the Desoto Tennis Center.

Florida Southern missed out on a second championship as Blaine Miller fell 6-3, 6-3 in the title match of Flight 5 to Florida Tech's Foresight Okungbowa.

In Flight 3, Oscar Soderlund captured third place with a 6-2, 3-6, 10-6 win over PBAU's Thomas Salmon while In Flight 1, Fabian Lundberg lost, 6-4, 7-5, in the third place match to Palm Beach Atlantic's Philipp Hoffmann.

In a case of Moc vs. Moc, it was Matt Matsuyama prevailing 6-3, 6-1 over teammate Derek Bell in the seventh place match of Flight 4.

In the final Flight 6, Mark Buckman took third place honors with a 6-0, 6-2 decision over Rob Vazquez of Eckerd College while Lance Francisco defaulted in his seventh place match to Webber's Gustavo Fortunato.

The Moccasins will entertain some of the Southeast's best NCAA Division II tennis players on Sept. 23-26 as Florida Southern hosts the Intercollegiate Tennis Association's South Region Championships.
