43rd Ranked Florida Southern Swept by Second-Ranked Saint Leo

SAINT LEO – Second-ranked Saint Leo swept Florida Southern, 9-0, here Wednesday in a Sunshine State Conference match.

Saint Leo, which has won six in a row to move to 17-1 overall and 5-0 in the SSC, held off the Florida Southern (13-8 overall and 2-3 in the SSC) in the three doubles competitions.

Egor Panyushkin and Jamie Bueno grabbed the Lions' first point by taking a 8-4 decision at number two doubles over the Moccasins' duo of Arthur Viallaneix and Derek Bell. SLU's Franciso Aparicio and Guillaume Vanelven made it 2-0 with an 8-6 victory over FSC's Miguel Alvarez-Hevia at number two while Alberto Barroso-Campos and Alex Theiler, ranked second in the NCAA Division II, got by Florida Southern's number one team of Brian Slivonik and Jose de Sario by an 8-6 score.

In singles, Barroso-Campos, ranked third nationally in singles, defeated de Sario, who was playing his first match at number one singles, by a 6-2, 6-2, score. Alex Theiler, ranked 17th, downed Slivonik, 6-2, 6-1, at number two, while #15 Jaime Bueno edged Alvarez-Hevia, 6-0, 7-5, at number three.

Aparicio deated Viallaneix, 6-2, 6-0, at number four, while Vanelven beat Oscar Saoderlun, 6-1, 6-2, at number five, and SLU's Elliot Carnello downed FSC's Matt Matsuyama, 6-2, 6-0.

Florida Southern plays next at home on Friday at 2 p.m. against Embry-Riddle.
