MIAMI SHORES – Defending national champion Barry University shut out Florida Southern 9-0 Friday afternoon here at the Buccaneer Tennis Center. The 7th-ranked Buccaneers improve to 11-2 overall and 3-0 in the Sunshine State Conference while the 43rd-ranked Moccasins drop to 11-6 and 0-2.
Barry's number one doubles team of Fabian Pronnet and Lucas Kogachi topped Florida Southern's Jose de Sario and Brian Slovinik, 8-6, while the Buccaneer's number two duo of Nico Dreer and Ahmed Triki topped the Moccasins team of Fabian Lundberg and Arthur Viallaneix, 8-3. Barry's number three team of Franco Echenique and Renato Monbardi posted an 8-2 victory over Florida Southern's Oscar Soderlund and Miquel Alvarez-Hevia.
In singles, Dreer, ranked 17th in the South Region, beat Lundberg, 6-1, 6-3, at number one while Pronnet, ranked 33rd nationally, prevailed 7-6 (7-5), 0-6, 10-8 in a match vs. de Sario at number two. Lombardi, ranked 18th regionally, topped Slivonik 6-4, 6-3 at number three while Daniel Venturi posted a 6-1, 6-4 victory over Alvarez-Hevia at number four. Viallaneix battled at number five for the Moccasins, but fell 6-3, 6-7 (4-7), 10-5 while Flavio Matteoli won 6-0, 6-3 over Soderlund at number six.
Florida Southern continues its Southern Florida swing with a 10 a.m. match at Palm Beach Atlantic on Saturday.
