  • Holmes Named Team MVP for Second-Straight Year

    LAKELAND, Fla. - Throughout the month of July, Florida Southern College Athletics will release its list of team MVPs for the 2018-19 season. Each MVP was selected by the team's head coach, and the list includes some of the top student-athletes in the country. MVPs will be revealed each weekday during the month at 10 a.m., and a list of their scheduled release dates can be found below.

  • Florida Southern Swimming Teams Earn Academic Honor from CSCAA

    The Florida Southern swimming teams, under the direction of head coach Andy Robins, have been named to the list of College Swimming and Diving Coaches Association (CSCAA) Scholar All-America teams for the spring 2019 semester. The CSCAA recognizes those teams achieving the GPA of 3.0 or higher for the semester.

  • Florida Southern Finishes 18th in Final Learfield Cup Standings

    CLEVELAND, Ohio - Florida Southern College finished 18th in the final 2018-19 NCAA Division II Learfield IMG College Directors' Cup standings, it was announced this week. The Moccasins made a combined 11 NCAA postseason appearances this past year, including top-10 finishes in men's golf (third), women's basketball (ninth) and women's lacrosse (ninth).
  • Assistant Swimming Coach Kendal Casey Brings Home Fourth-Place Overall Finish from Swim Around Key West

    KEY WEST, FLA. - While the Florida Southern swimming teams have been on their summer break since graduation in early May, one member of the program took part in a competition of a slightly different kind. Assistant coach Kendal Casey recently competed in the Swim Around Key West and brought home a fourth-place overall finish in the 43rd annual event.

Voting on the league’s top individual awards was conducted by SSC coaches following the conclusion of the NCAA National Championships, with the All-SSC Team previously announced on March 8.

    INDIANAPOLIS – For the second year in a row, sophomore backstroke swimmers Brandon Dyck and Matias Lopez earned All-American awards in the 200-backstroke, and Matthew Holmes picked up another individual All-American award too on the final day of the 2019 NCAA Division II National Swimming & Diving Championships. The Moccasins then closed things out with senior Nico Campbell, junior Talor Hamilton, sophomore Carlos Bernotti and Holmes collecting relay All-American awards in the 400-freestyle event.

  • Holmes Successfully Defends National Title in 400-IM at NCAA Division II Swimming & Diving Championships

    INDIANAPOLIS – For the second year in a row, Matthew Holmes will be bringing home an individual national championship for the Florida Southern men’s swimming program. The senior from Rockledge, Florida successfully defended his title in the 400-individual medley by finishing more than two seconds ahead of his closest pursuer to claim his second medal of the meet.

    INDIANAPOLIS – The Florida Southern men’s swimming team had its first medalist at the 2019 NCAA Division II National Swimming & Diving Championships when senior Matthew Holmes finished second in the 200-individual medley. It marks the second year in a row Holmes has medaled in the 200-IM following a bronze in 2018, and along with fellow IM swimmer sophomore Matias Lopez, he helped put the Moccasins in 12th place in the team standings at the end of day one.
  • National Swimming & Diving Championships Begin Wednesday with 16 Moccasins Set to Compete

    INDIANAPOLIS - The NCAA Division II National Swimming and Diving Championships begin on Wednesday at the IUPUI Natatorium where Florida Southern will be represented by 16 of its best swimmers under first-year head coach Andy Robins. Ten men and six women are on the roster for the trip to Indianapolis, which is hosting the championships for the third time in the last five years, as the Moccasins look to add to their list of impressive accomplishments over the last 10 years. During that time the Mocs have brought home 15 gold medals between the men and women, with at least one individual or relay national champion in seven of the last nine years.
  • Six Moccasins Make All-SSC Men’s Swimming Team

    MELBOURNE, FL – Six members of the Florida Southern men’s swimming team have been named All-Sunshine State Conference in a vote of league coaches. Among them are a league-high four swimmers on the All-SSC First Team: seniors Matthew Holmes and Luka Planinc, and sophomores Matias Lopez and Brandon Dyck. Earning Second Team All-SSC honors is freshman Cole Smith, and senior Nico Campbell was an honorable mention selection.
  • Men's Swimming Team Sending 10 to NCAA Division II National Championships

    INDIANAPOLIS – Six members of the Florida Southern men’s swimming team have been selected for the NCAA Division II National Championships in Indianapolis at the IU Natatorium, March 13-16, and four additional Moccasins are making the trip as relay swimmers. Earning spots from Florida Southern are seniors Nico Campbell, Matthew Holmes, and Luka Planinc, and sophomores Miguel Bernotti, Brandon Dyck, and Matias Lopez. All six of those selections took part in last year’s national finals, and all of them brought home at least one individual All-American award.

    CLEARWATER, FLA. – Matthew Holmes won his third gold medal of the 2019 SSC Men’s Swimming Championships, and Brandon Dyck joined him as an individual champion on Saturday. The Moccasins weren’t quite finished though as their 800-freestyle relay team set a new meet record in giving them another gold medal in the final race of the night.

    CLEARWATER, FLA. – For the second night in a row, senior Matthew Holmes turned in a gold-medal, record-setting performance in the individual medley, and Matias Lopez was right behind him for a 1-2 finish in the 400-IM. Those points, along with silver and bronze medal finishes by Nico Campbell and Luka Planinc in the 200-freestyle helped Florida Southern remain third overall at the 2019 SSC Men’s Swimming Championships.

  • Florida Southern Swimming Honored with CSCAA Scholar All-America Team Awards

    COLORADO SPRINGS, CO - The Florida Southern swimming teams have been recognized by the College Swimming Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) in its annual list of Scholar All-America Teams. Announced on Tuesday (Jan. 22), the Moccasin men ranked 10th in the country at the Division II level with a 3.36 grade point average for the fall semester, and the women were tied for 12th with a 3.57. To be selected as a Scholar All-America Team, programs must achieve a GPA of 3.00 or higher for the semester being awarded.
  • Planinc Gives Florida Southern Another SSC Men’s Swimmer of the Week

    MELBOURNE, FL – The Florida Southern men’s swimming team has landed its fourth Sunshine State Conference Men’s Swimmer of the Week award as Luka Planinc has been selected for the January 21 honor. The senior from Zagreb, Croatia has already been a two-time All-SSC swimmer for the Moccasins in his career, but is the league’s swimmer of the week for the first time.

    LAKELAND, FL – A massive performance by senior distance swimmer Luka Planinc set 13th-ranked Florida Southern up for a six-point win over NJCAA National Champion Indian River State on Friday. Swimming in the final home meet of his career, Planinc won the 1,000 and 500 as an individual before anchoring the winning 400-freestyle relay team in a meet-clinching race that gave the Moccasins their 135½-126½ victory.

    MELBOURNE, FL – For the first time this season and the second time in his career, Florida Southern sophomore Matias Lopez has been selected as the Sunshine State Conference Men’s Swimmer of the Week. Lopez claims the award after winning four of his five individual races in a pair of dual meets over the weekend against Division II No. 3 Emory, and No. 18 Nova Southeastern.
  • Men's Swimming Meet Decided by Two Points in Final Event as Nova Southeastern Holds on for 132-130 Win Over Florida Southern

    DAVIE, Fla. – Matias Lopez gave No. 13 Florida Southern wins in the 200-backstroke and 200-IM, and Matthew Holmes had wins in the 200-free and 500-free, but No. 18 Nova Southeastern won the relay points Saturday and used those to hold on for a 132-130 victory over the Moccasins.

  • Swimming Teams Host National Power Emory University on Friday in First Home Meet of the Season

    For the first time this season, and the first time ever under new head coach Andy Robins, the Florida Southern swimming teams will have a chance to compete in their own pool as the Moccasins host Emory University at the Hollis Wellness Center Friday at 4 p.m. The men's team goes into that meet ranked No. 13 in the January 9 CSCAA National Poll, and the women are ranked No. 17.
