CLEARWATER – With sophomore Luis Jasso leading a 1-2-3 finish for the Moccasins in the 200-breaststroke, junior Antonio Nunez-Alvarez winning the 200-butterfly, and three runner-up finishes as well, Florida Southern closed out the Tampa Spartan Invitational night in second place behind the host Spartans.

The two wins Sunday night gave Florida Southern a total of 10 in the meet, with Tampa winning the other eight. The Moccasins easily out-distanced Lenoir-Rhyne (NC) and Rollins, the other two schools competing in the 3-day meet.

Florida Southern dominated the 200-breaststroke where Jasso had an NCAA provisional qualifying time of 1:58.73, and freshman Sean Kim came in second with another provisional time of 2:00.32. Freshman Matthew Holmes, who had already won two events earlier in the meet, came in third. The win in the 200-breast was Jasso's third in four tries this season, and even his third-place finish at Florida State came with another NCAA provisional time. It was also Jasso's second breaststroke win of the Spartan Invitational after he took the 100 on Saturday.

Right after Jasso won the 200-breaststroke, Nunez-Alvarez captured the 200-butterly by 0.37 seconds with an NCAA "B" time of 1:48.78. That gave Florida Southern wins in both butterfly races too, with senior Edson Lima having finished first in the 100 one night earlier.

In addition to Kim in the 200-breaststroke, the Moccasins also received runner-up finishes from senior Raul Garrastazu in the 1,650-freestyle and junior Evan Coleman in the 200-backstroke. Garrastazu had an NCAA "B" time in his event at 16:05.69.

In the 100-freestyle, Tampa owned the top five positions, but Florida Southern still had three swimmers reach the finals. Junior Diego Gimenez and senior Jesus Marin gave the Mocs two more NCAA "B" times there, and freshman Nico Campbell had another one in the 100-freestyle by winning the consolation final.

In the final race of the night, Tampa win the 400-freestyle relay, but the Moccasins' time of 2:59.68 was yet another provisional qualifying time. This one came from junior Marco Palacios, Marin, Gimenez, and Lima.

Florida Southern will now break for Christmas before returning to action with back-to-back home meets on January 8 and 9. The Moccasins will host Emory on Friday, January 8 at 4 p.m., and Nova Southeastern on Saturday, January 9 at 1 p.m.
