MELBOURNE, Fla. – The Florida Southern men's lacrosse team was ranked second in the Sunshine State Conference as voted on by the league's six head coaches in the annual preseason poll.
In the conference's second season sponsoring men's lacrosse, the Moccasins were picked second behind the University of Tampa. The Spartans received five first-place votes and 25 points overall. The Mocs earned the other first-place vote and finished four points behind Tampa with 21.
Saint Leo was tabbed third in the league with 16 points, followed by Florida Tech with 13. Rollins (9) and Lynn (6) came in fifth and sixth, respectively.
Last season, the Spartans (16-3) won the first-ever SSC regular season and tournament titles, and advanced to the NCAA semifinals. FSC finished with a program-record 11 wins as the Mocs went 11-4 and 4-1 inside the SSC. The Mocs' only blemishes in league play came against Tampa in the regular season and in the inaugural SSC tournament championship game.
The Mocs were ranked 10th in the preseason United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association (USILA) 2015 NCAA Division II Men's Top 15 poll. They were tabbed as the 11th-best team in the nation in the Nike/Lacrosse Magazine and the Inside Lacrosse 2015 Face-Off Edition preseason polls.
Florida Southern opens the 2015 SSC slate when they host Tampa at Bryant Stadium on Saturday, March 7 at 3 p.m.
