Mars Hill‚??s Big Fourth Period Downs Mocs

Mars Hill used five fourth quarter goals to propel the Lions to an 11-6 Deep South Conference victory over the Moccasins Thursday at Mars Hill.  With the win, Mars Hill improves to 8-3 and 3-1 in the DSC, while the Mocs drop to 2-7 and 1-3 in DSC.

The Moccasins started the game with all the momentum, scoring the first two goals of the game. At the 4:48 mark A.J. Monteleone passed to Corey Brown, who found the back of the net for the game's first point.  The Mocs added to their lead on Jon Freda’s unassisted goal at the 1:13 mark.  Mars Hill was able to cut the lead to 2-1 before the end of the quarter on a Danny Farmer goal with 3.7 seconds left.

The Lions outscored the Mocs 3-1 in the second quarter to take a 4-3 half-time lead.  They added another goal to start the second half to take a 5-3 lead with 10:33 left in the third period.  The Moccasins responded with a three-goal run, which included a goal by Cam Holding and two from Brian Rossetti, giving the Mocs a 6-5 advantage.  The Lions evened the score on a goal by Farmer with 1:54 left in the third, then took the lead less than two minutes into the fourth period on a goal by T.J. Cowx.

The Mocs won the face-off battle 13-7, with Mike Kelly going 9-12.  Rossetti finished the game with two goals, one assist, and a team-high five ground balls.  Holding also had two goals. 

The Moccasins will be back in action Saturday when they travel to Misenheimer, N.C. to take on Pfeiffer in their final regular season road game at 1 p.m.
