LAKELAND, FL - Florida Southern College's eSports team picked up two more wins in Rocket League action this weekend as they topped the University of South Carolina and Grand Canyon Unversity. The Moccasins picked up a 2-0 victory over South Carolina and defeated Grand Canyon, 2-0, by way of a forfeit. Florida Southern narrowly missed out on a 3-0 record as it fell to the University of Southern California, 2-1.
FLORIDA SOUTHERN 2, SOUTH CAROLINA 0
Cody Lowe got the Mocs on the board in the first two minutes of game one, but the Gamecocks were able to tie things up quickly at 1-1. Florida Southern was able to open a two-goal lead when Lowe and Koy McGrath netted goals to make it 3-1, but South Carolina rallied to tie things at 3-3 at the end of regulation. In overtime, Ashley Dougherty put home the game-winner in the third minute to give FSC a 4-3 lead. In game two, it was the Gamecocks who opened the scoring with a pair of goals to grab an early 2-0 lead. However, Lowe took a cross from McGrath and scored with two minutes left to slice the deficit in half, and Dougherty nailed another game-winner in overtime to give the Moccasins a 4-3 win and clinch the match.
USC 2, FLORIDA SOUTHERN 1
The Trojans dominated the first game by a score of 4-0, but Florida Southern turned things around in game two. After FSC jumped out to a 2-0 lead and USC came back to tie, McGrath nailed a clutch go-ahead goal in the final 30 seconds and the Mocs held off a furious rally to pick up a 3-2 win and even the match at 1-1. In the third game, the teams played to a 1-1 draw in regulation before USC netted the game-winner in overtime.
FLORIDA SOUTHERN 2, GRAND CANYON 0
Grand Canyon forfeited its match against the Moccasins, who earned a 2-0 victory.
The Florida Southern Overwatch squad also debuted on Sunday in a pair of exhibition contests. The Mocs defeated Buffalo 2-0 and lost 2-0 to Texas A&M.
