After a four-year playing career for the Moccasins, Patrick Szczerba will continue his association with FSC as a member of the baseball coaching staff for the 2016 season. This will be his fifth season assisting with the Moccasins as he works primarily with the team's pitchers. In addition, Szczerba also serves as the program's recruiting coordinator.
In 2014, FSC's pitchers finished the year with a 3.00 combined team ERA under Szczerba's tutelage. On the season, they recorded 336 strikeouts and walked just 137 opposing batters. The 3.00 combined team ERA was the lowest in a single season for the Mocs in the last six seasons.
Szczerba completed his four-year playing career in the spring of 2011. He went 3-1 with a team-best 1.93 ERA and shared the team lead in pitching appearances with 21. For his career, he was 6-1 with a 3.61 ERA in 69 appearances, all in relief. His 69 appearances rank sixth in FSC history.
In 2010 he posted a 1.35 ERA with a 2-0 record in 17 relief appearances. He led the team with 27 appearances in 2009.
A graduate of Titusville High School, Szczerba was a four-year player in both baseball and football. As a senior he hit .370 and produced a 1.50 ERA in baseball after quarterbacking the football team with 1,000 passing yards and 12 touchdowns. He graduated with honors.
He received his bachelor's degree from FSC in 2010 in communications with an emphasis on advertising. He earned his master's degree in business administration from FSC in 2011.
