LAKELAND, Fla. - The diamond may be silent this summer at Henley Field, but Florida Southern College baseball is being well represented in various collegiate summer leagues and the professional ranks this year. As of the Major League Baseball All-Star Break, the Moccasins have seven former players in the professional ranks with nine current and two incoming players in collegiate leagues around the country.
In addition, three former Moccasin baseball student-athletes are currently coaching at the professional level. Brian Butterfield is in his second season as the third-base coach for the Chicago Cubs, while Bill Dancy currently serves as the Minor League Field Coordinator for the Detroit Tigers. Dino Ebel, who pitched to Los Angeles Dodgers outfielder Joc Pederson in this year's record-breaking Home Run Derby, is in his first year as the Dodgers' third-base coach.
MOCCASINS IN SUMMER COLLEGIATE LEAGUES
Jacob Teter (Wareham Gateman/Cape Cod League): Teter is one of just two Division II players on the roster for Wareham in what is considered the premier collegiate summer league in the nation. Through 22 games, Teter currently ranks sixth in the Cape Cod League in hitting (.329) and as driven in 15 runs, scored 14, and recorded three doubles, a triple, and two homers. STATS
Zach Scott (Strasburg Express/Valley League): Scott is playing summer ball for the Strasburg Express of the Valley Leagie in Virginia, and is batting .304 with three homers and 21 RBI in 23 games. He has also scored 17 runs and has stolen three bases. STATS
Alan Burnsed (Martha's Vineyard Sharks/New England League): Burnsed is playing for the Martha's Vineyard Sharks in the New England Collegiate Baseball League (NECBL) and is currently batting .293 with two home runs and 12 RBI in 14 games. STATS
Thomas Spinelli (Martha's Vineyard Sharks/New England League): A teammate of Burnsed with the Martha's Vineyard Sharks, Spinelli is 1-2 with a 1.86 ERA and 11 strikeouts. He has appeared in six games, all in relief, and has walked just two in 9.2 innings of work. STATS
Dylan Costa (Palm Beach Xtreme/South Florida League): After missing nearly his entire sophomore season due to injury, Costa is getting valuable reps with Palm Beach Xtreme of the South Florida Collegiate League. Costa, who was limited to just 32 at-bats in eight games for the Mocs this season, has bounced back in a big way by hitting .400 in five games to date in the SFCL. He is 6-for-15 at the plate and has scored six runs while recording three stoeln bases. STATS
Bobby Turkett (Delray Beach Lightning/South Florida League): Turkett has made 10 appearences and one start for Delray Beach, and has recorded 16 strikeouts in 16.2 innings pitched. He has multiple strikeouts in five different outings this year, with a season-best four coming in a three-inning stint againt Phipps Park on June 18. STATS
Reed Burke (Westhampton Aviators/Hamptons League): Burke has made three appearances for Westhamptin in the Hamptons CCollegiateBaseball League in New York, and is currently playing with fellow Moccasin Logan Verrino. STATS
Logan Verrino (Westhampton Aviators/Hamptons League): Verrino is is 1-2 with five saves and a 3.52 ERA in 13 relief appearances. He has recorded 20 strikeouts in 15.1 innings and issued just five walks. STATS
Brien Johnston (Top Speed/Golden State League): Johnston is 1-0 with a 3.85 ERA in California's Golden State League. He has made seven appearances and two starts and has struck out 20 batters in 11.2 innings of work. STATS

Jarrod Cande (Sanford River Rats/Florida League): Cande, who will join the Moccasins this year after spending two seasons at Santa Fe College, currently ranks fourth in the Florida League in hitting (.352) and leads the league in home runs (nine) and RBI (27). A two-way player for the Sanford River Rats, he has also appeared in four games as a pitcher, striking out 10 batters in 5.0 innings. He was named to the FCSL East All-Star Team this year, where he was named as the MVP. STATS
Kyler Marquis (Savannah Bananas/Coastal Plain League): Another Santa Fe College product who will join the Mocs this coming year, Marquis is currently batting .286 with four RBI and six stolen bases in 16 games for Savannah in the Coastal Plain League in Georgia. STATS
MOCCASINS IN THE PROS
Matt Joyce (Atlanta Braves/MLB): Joyce has appeared in 69 games this year for Atlanta, while hitting three homers, seven doubles, and recording 10 RBI. He has also scored 12 runs. Joyce has appeared in left field, right field, and as a designated hitter for the first-place Braves, who lead the NL East by six games and have the second-best record in the National League. STATS
Cooper Bradford (AZL White Sox/Arizona League): Bradford, who was a 13th round pick by the Chicago White Sox during the MLB Draft in June, has appeared and started in four games for the AZL White Sox of the rookie-level Arizona League. He has recorded 11 strikeouts in 11.0 innings pitched while issuing just three walks. STATS
Logan Browning (Greenville Drive/South Atlantic League): Browning earned SAL All-Star recognition for the Class A affiliate of the Boston Red Sox and has posted a 1.85 earned-run average in 27 appearances for the Drive, all out of the bullpen. He has recorded 63 strikeouts and walked just eight, and is a perfect 7-of-7 in save opportunities this year. STATS
Keith Curcio (Salem Red Sox/Carolina League): Curcio has played at both the Advanced-A (Salem) and Double-A (Portland) levels for the Red Sox this year, and has appeared in 58 games while scoring 31 runs, hitting two homers, and recording 16 RBI. STATS
J.T. Hintzen (Carolina Mudcats/Carolina League): Hintzen has appeared in 26 games for the Milwaukee Brewers Advanced-A affiliate in the Carolina League. All of his appearances have come in relief and he has recorded 51 strikeouts in 37.0 innings to go along with a 3.16 ERA. STATS
Matt Martin (Everett AquaSox/Northwest League): After signing a free-agent deal with the Seattle Mariners in June, Martin was assigned to the team's short-season Class A affiliate in Everett, Wash., and has made four appearances. He is 1-1 with a 6.35 ERA and earned his first professional win with 3.1 scoreless innings in relief in a 9-4 victory over the Tri-City Dust Devils on June 28. STATS
Mitch Reeves (Lynchburg Hillcats/Carolina League): Reeves has played at both the Class A (Lake County) and Advanced A (Lynchburg) affiliates of the Cleveland Indians this year. He has appeared in 74 games and is batting a combined .265 with eight home runs, 48 RBI, and 40 runs scored. After being promoted to Lynchburg on June 20, Reeves is batting .296 in 15 games for the Hillcats. STATS
Jake Walsh (Palm Beach Cardinals/Florida State League): Walsh is in his third season in the St. Louis Cardinals' system, but has not pitched this year due to injury. He is currently on the injured list for Palm Beach, the Cards' Advanced A affiliate. Walsh entered the season 14-5 with a 2.25 ERA in his previous two seasons in the minors.
