Splitting its last four games, the Florida Southern baseball team has dropped two spots to ninth in the Collegiate Baseball Magazine Top 30 Poll released today.
Florida Southern fell 4-1 at Flagler on Wednesday and then beat Rollins 10-1 on Friday before splitting a doubleheader on Saturday, dropping game one, 5-3, then rallying for a 9-2 decision in game two.
The Moccasins, now 25-9 overall and 8-4 in the Sunshine State Conference, slipped down to number nine after being ranked seventh in the poll last week. Florida Southern received 352 points in the weekly poll.
St. Cloud State remains the nation's top-ranked team with a 25-1 record and 470 points while Millersville (31-3) moved up one spot to number two with 468 points. Rounding out the top five are Franklin Pierce (28-3), Colorado Mesa (31-6), and Tampa (28-6).
The next five includes Southern New Hampshire (26-3), California-Baptist (30-8), Belmony Abbey (30-8-1), FSC, and Lubbock Christian (25-10).
South Carolina-Aiken, the Moccasins' opponent this weekend, May 15-17, is ranked 13th with a 30-9 record. Fellow Sunshine State Conference member Nova Southeastern (25-11) is ranked 18th.
Florida Southern, which is ranked fifth in the NCBWA South Region Poll, is hitting .331 as a team with 38 home runs on the season. Sam Machonis leads the Mocs with a .418 average, nine homers, and 41 runs batted in and he leads the SSC with 61 hits and is second in average and RBI. Mitch Reeves is hitting .388 with 37 RBI while Dominic Brugnoni has a .336 average. Reeves is tied with Logan Browning for second on the team with seven homers.
Ben Richardson is tied for the NCAA Division II lead with nine wins against just one loss and has won his last six starts.
