LAKELAND, FL - Florida Southern College beach volleyball picked up a pair of victories on Tuesday afternoon. The Mocs (8-8) defeated Lincoln Memorial (0-2) and North Alabama (4-7) at the Ruthven Beach Courts. Florida Southern began the day with a 4-1 victory over Lincoln Memorial and closed the night out with a 3-2 victory over Division I foe North Alabama.
The day started with the Mocs number five court of Morgan Cleary and Katie Bergeron cruising to a first-set victory of 21-4 and a second-set victory of 21-16 to give the Mocs a 1-0 lead. After falling in the second set the Mocs duo of Haley Goodrich and Celia Greco bounced back to take the final set 15-7 and put the home team up 2-0. The Lady Railsplitters picked up their only victory in a comeback win on the number three court taking the final two sets. The Mocs clinched the match on the number two courts as Kayla Trefren and Kylee Whiteleather won the final two sets. Makena Wilson and Alex Montoya closed out the first match with a victory in the third set to give the Mocs a 4-1 win.
North Alabama jumped out to a 1-0 lead as they defeated the Mocs number five duo of Bergeron and Emily Jones in straight sets. The Mocs won three courts in a row as Goodrich and Greco evened the match score at 1-1 with wins in the second and third set. The number two court of Trefren and Whiteleather gave the Mocs a 2-1 lead with a victory in the third set. Florida Southern clinched the match victory as Lee Calhoun and Kennedy Mathews won in straight sets.
Florida Southern improved to .500 on the season.
Florida Southern heads to St. Petersburg for two matches against Eckerd and Lincoln Memorial at North Shore Park on March 26.
