LAKELAND, FL - Florida Southern College beach volleyball surpassed last years win total by taking two from Stevenson on Saturday. The Mocs (6-8) won all five games in the first match over the Mustangs (3-7) and won the second match 4-1 to complete the sweep.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Florida Southern won all but one set in the first match. The match began with two-set victories from Haley Goodrich and Celia Greco on the number four court and Katie Bergeron and Morgan Cleary on the number five court. On the number two court, Kayla Trefren and Kylee Whiteleather went down 12-3 in the first set but rallied back to take the set 21-18 before completing the point with a 21-19 victory in the second set. After dropping the first set, Makena Wilson and Alex Montoya took sets two and three to complete the match sweep of the Mustangs.
Florida Southern defeated Stevenson in three sets on all four courts it won, the opposite of the first match. The Mocs took the opening set on the numbers three and four courts while taking the final two sets on the numbers two and five courts. Kennedy Matthews and Lee Calhoun nearly swept their competition but the Mustangs duo of Emily Castro and Caroline Dangel forced a third and deciding set.
The Mocs host Lincoln Memorial and North Alabama on Monday before heading to St. Petersburg for matches against Eckerd and Lincoln Memorial on Tuesday, March 26.
