Beach Volleyball Wins Two Matches at College of Charleston Tournament

CHARLESTON, S.C. - Florida Southern College Beach Volleyball picks up two wins on the second day of the College of Charleston tournament. The Mocs (4-7) defeated Carson-Newman and Huntingdon on Saturday. Florida Southern dropped a pair of 0-5 matches to Charleston Southern on the first day and closed out the tournament with a 1-4 loss to Texas A&M - Kingsville. 

The tournament began with a pair of matches against the host College of Charleston. The Mocs fell in all but one set as the duo of Haley Goodrich and Celia Greco forced a third set with a 22-20 second-set victory. Florida Southern suffered the same fate in the second match but this time each game was decided in two sets. 

Day two of the tournament proved to have a better outcome as the Mocs swept the competition. The Mocs day started with a 4-1 victory over Carson-Newman. All four of the FSC victories came in two sets, while the Mocs lone loss was decided in the third and final set. On the number two court, Kennedy Mathews and Lee Calhoun picked up back-to-back blowout set wins of 21-5 and 21-5. The day ended with victories on the one, two, and four courts as they defeated Huntingdon, 3-2. 

The final day saw the Mocs fall to the 2018 Small College Champion in Texas A&M Kingsville, 4-1. Florida Southern's lone victory on Sunday morning came on the number four court as the Goodrich/Greco duo won back-to-back sets of 21-14 and 21-11. 


Florida Southern will take to the courts next when they head over to Saint Leo for a pair of matches on March 21 against Stevenson (3 p.m.) and Saint Leo (5 p.m.). The Mocs are home two days later as they host Stevenson (10 a.m.) and the University of South Florida (2 p.m.).
