LAKELAND, Fla. - Florida Southern College will hold a pair of open skate sessions and an official tryout for students interested in joining its new men's ice hockey program. The Moccasin ice hockey team will make its debut this year, with games and practices held at the brand-new Lakeland Ice Arena.
Registration is now available for the team's open skates and open tryouts. The two open skates will take place on Aug. 26 and 28 from 3:30-5 p.m., with the open tryout taking place on Aug. 29 at the same time. The team will compete as a club sport in the American Collegiate Hockey Association (AHCA) and Florida Southern will be the 13th school in the state of Florida with a team in the ACHA, joining Eastern Florida State College, Embry-Riddle, Florida Atlantic, FGCU, Florida State, Florida Tech, Lynn, Miami, University of Florida, Tampa, UCF, and USF, all of whom are at the ACHA DIII level.
Florida Southern men's ice hockey will have dedicated ice time and locker room space at Lakeland Ice Arena.
