Hoyt Barnett, who passed away in 1994, was a long-time supporter of Florida Southern and was active in the Sixth Man Club, the booster club for men’s basketball. An avid basketball fan, he was a fixture at Moccasin games for many years. However, his support for and generosity to Florida Southern extended beyond the men’s basketball program. In honor of his contributions to Florida Southern, the Barnett family donated the majority of the funding to provide lights for the softball and soccer field (originally known as Pipkin Field) and, subsequently, the facility was re-named in his honor. The dedication ceremony took place in March of 1990 during Homecoming. The lights at Barnett Field have made it possible for FSC to host a number of NCAA regional softball tournaments.
